Free State MEC for Health, Ms. Mathabo Leeto with HOD, Mr. Godfrey Mahlatsi conduct an unannounced visit at Bongani Regional Hospital in Welkom on Sunday, 19 March 2023.
This unannounced visit is part of the critical first steps that the New MEC is embarking upon as a mechanism to familiarise herself, in a direct manner, with the landscape of health care service delivery.
“Bongani has been in the news on allegations of mistreatment of patients to a point where others dubbed it as a point of no return when you go there” said MEC Leeto.
“I have gone to different wards in the hospital including Casualty, Orthopedic and the different sections of the Maternity Ward and have found nothing but happy patients who are timely and appropriately served by willing, diligent and compassionate staff. The hospital is clean and security personnel are on their strategic posts to protect infrastructure, staff, patients and the hospital environment. I have taken note of grievances like the need for adequate staffing, uniform and need for attention to infrastructure challenges. I will be doing many of these unannounced visits to many health facilities across the province” concluded MEC Leeto.
