Key Highlights of Medico-Legal Workshop
The Free State Department of Health’s Medico-Legal Workshop underway at the Council Chambers at George du Toit Building, University of the Free State, Bloemfontein on Wednesday, 13 to Thursday, 14 August 2025.
This significant workshop aims to address the pressing challenges posed by medico-legal claims, which have become a growing concern for healthcare professionals and institutions alike.
For the first time ever and owing to the prioritisation of the Medico- Litigation Reduction Strategy by Free State MEC for Health, Mr. Monyatso Mahlatsi, the Medico-Legal Workshop has brought together under one roof all the key stakeholders from various sectors, including legal, financial, academic and clinical domains. This collaborative effort seeks to manage adverse events leading to medico-legal claims, which can create an unsavoury litigious environment that hinders the work of clinicians and endangers patient safety.
